Dear Tamás,

Unfortunately I will not be able to share with you the salary range, as it is confidential and we can’t disclose it. I was wondering whether you can support me with your salary expectations (gross/month please) related to our vacancy so that I can see if they fit within our range.

Üdvözlettel,

Tamás Rébeli-Szabó – Dec 14, 2018

Raluca,

I am sorry, I was actually mostly looking to elicit some more information from you. I apparently failed.

The fact of the matter is that even though I’ve worked with Oracle, I’d probably never work for Oracle. I believe it is exactly this secrecy that will sooner or later lead to Oracle DB’s demise. There are further reasons of course. However good an RDBMS Oracle DB might be, it is getting increasingly bloated, even to the point of becoming unmanageable, and it’s long been impossible for it to have a complete overhaul. These and other reasons have made me turn more and more toward free and open source software, which has long been a passion of mine, but I’ve managed to monetize on it in recent years too. (Time to update my neglected Linked in profile, I guess.) It might not be as lucrative as working with those ever so wonderful Oracle products, and money can surely buy many things (consider Solaris or MySQL), but one ought to have sublime motivations that weigh more, and money cannot buy a philosophy.

Nevertheless, I appreciate your contacting me, and my apologies if you feel I have wasted your time. I truly hope you will find the perfect candidates for the positions you are recruiting for.

I also wish you a splendid time for the festive season.

Kind regards,

tamás

Dear Tamás,

Thank you for your answer and for the explanations, I appreciate that you took the time to respond even if you weren’t interested in the role. Although I am sorry you feel this way about Oracle. Anyway, it’s good that you found your passion and your are also making money of it. I am always happy to hear that about someone :)

Many thanks for the good wishes!

I wish you to enjoy the holidays with your dear ones!

Kind regards,
Raluca
